An approximate 5.7-hectare grass fire west of the City of Kamloops was swiftly brought under control overnight.

Dana Napier said the Tk'emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment was notified by the BC Wildfire Service about the 5.7-hectare grass fire, located in the Battle Bluffs area west of Tranquille in the Lac Du Bois Grasslands. The fire was considered to be under control by 5:30 a.m. "Upon police arrival, a heavily-burned vehicle was located along with a licence plate," Napier said in a statement. She said an initial assessment during the preliminary stages of the investigation suggested the fire was set intentionally.

The 5.7-hectare fire is located in the Battle Bluff area west of Tranquille. Taylor Wallace, BC Wildfire Service information officer, said four personnel responded to the blaze when it was initially discovered overnight and nine are on site Thursday. The fire was listed as under control as of 5:30 a.m., according to the BCWS.

“It’s a grass fire so those can often be really flashy and flare up initially, and then they can kind of come under control quite easily just because the fuels are so flashy,” Wallace said.
