Google Search‘s AI Mode on Android and iOS now lets you search through your past chat history. Instead of making you scroll endlessly through a sidebar to find an old conversation, a new update introduces a dedicated “Search threads” bar at the top of the app‘s side menu. This feature brings the same convenient search functionality to mobile devices that was previously only available on the desktop website.

Finding an old chat is completely straightforward with this new layout. When you open the navigation drawer from the Google app or the AI Mode home screen, the pill-shaped search field sits right at the top. Tapping it opens a full-screen experience where you can type keywords to instantly pull up older topics.

Google also placed a settings gear next to the bar, giving you a quick shortcut to your full My Activity page. An interface refresh for iPhone Alongside the search bar, the iPhone app is getting a visual redesign that Google previewed at its I/O event back in May. The prompt box no longer sits glued to the bottom of the screen like a standard sheet.

Instead, it now looks like a rounded rectangle that floats above the interface, as 9to5Google reports. This iOS update also brings a major functional change to the “plus” menu, adding the ability to upload files directly from your phone. While web users have had this file-upload capability for a while, its arrival on mobile makes it much easier to share documents on the go.

These specific visual changes and file shortcuts are not widely available on Android devices just yet, but they are already rolling out broadly for iOS users. The Android Headlines Take Flashy AI tools always get the big headlines, but it is simple updates like a search bar that actually make an app usable every day. Google took way too long to bring this basic web feature to smartphones, but it completely fixes one of the most annoying parts of using the mobile app.

Being able to jump right back into an old project without hunting for it is a massive time-saver. If you use the app frequently, this update is going to make your daily workflow a whole lot smoother.
