Article content On Friday, July 3, Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Bill Rosenberg hosted a community barbeque at Westview Park in Elliot Lake. Rosenberg announced funding for Elliot Lake which included the Elliot Lake Entertainment Series, the Granite and Social Club, and the Seniors Active Living Centre. Recommended Videos The city received $50,000 for an Economic Development Strategy and another $50,000 for a generator at the fire hall from the Rural Ontario Development Program.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation awarded $405,215 for renovating the Arts and Heritage Centre, and $93,681.57 was allocated for CCTV installation in the downtown core. Additional support of $200,000 in Trillium funding for climate control at Collins Hall, along with $17,080 Seniors Community Grant for the Dementia Wellness Program. The city was also recognized as an Age-Friendly Community, and Rosenberg honoured Mike Marcella who was chosen as Elliot Lake’s Senior of the Year.

After the announcements the crowd enjoyed grilled burgers and roasted hot dogs, while Rosenberg engaged with constituents, discussing the efforts the provincial government is making in Northern Ontario. The lunchtime event provided a chance for attendees to grab some of Rosenberg’s swag. Staff gave away water bottles, frisbees, sunglasses, and much more.

While the temperature rose to 26° Celsius, the new pavilion in the park gave much needed shade to those beating the heat as they dined “al fresco”.
