Yankees select Andy Pettitte's son in 8th round of MLB draft

Another Pettitte is joining the Yankees system, as two-way star Luke Pettitte was selected by his dad's former team on July 12.

Another Pettitte is set to join the New York Yankees organization. Luke Pettitte, a two-way star from Dallas Baptist and the son of Yankees postseason legend Andy Pettitte, was selected in the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Yankees on Sunday, July 12. Luke Pettitte batted .337 with 16 home runs and 48 RBI as a designated hitter in 2026, not appearing on the mound due to injury.

He was primarily a reliever at Dallas Baptist in 2025, earning two saves while allowing only two hits across 11 1/3 innings pitched on the year. Andy Pettitte won five World Series titles and holds MLB's all-time record for postseason wins (19). The three-time MLB All-Star was a member of the Yankees' "Core Four" and pitched over 3,300 innings across his 18 seasons, ending his career with 2,448 strikeouts and over 60 WAR.

Luke Pettitte is actually Andy Pettitte's second son to be drafted by the Yankees.

His oldest son, Josh Pettitte, was drafted in the 37th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the organization out of Deer Park High School in Texas, although he opted to play college baseball at Rice. All three of Pettite's sons — Josh, Jared and Luke — pitched at Dallas Baptist, and his daughter, Lexy, played volleyball there from 2019-22. Jared Pettitte spent two seasons as a pitcher in the Miami Marlins system from 2021-22, when Yankees legend and former Andy Pettitte teammate Derek Jeter was CEO of the organization.
