An investigation is underway after two people were found dead in the McTavish Lake area, north of La Ronge. La Ronge RCMP received a report of a suspected wildlife incident at McTavish Lake on July 15, according to the Ministry of Community Safety. Officers found two deceased individuals in the area, and the ministry says the deaths are believed to be wildlife-related.
The ministry extended their condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the incident. Residents, cabin owners, visitors and outdoor recreation users are asked to exercise caution when outdoors to avoid wildlife encounters. The Conservation Officer Service’s Wildlife Human Attack Response Team has been deployed and is working with the Coroner’s Service and RCMP as the investigation continues.
“Conservation officers are working to identify and locate the animal(s) that may have been involved in the incident,” the ministry’s statement read. The ministry says the investigation is in its early stages and no further information is being released at this time. It says updates will be provided as they become available.
