Teen stopped with a replica gun on the REM, slowing down service

A 19-year-old man was met by police after reports of a firearm on the REM light rail line on Saturday night. The weapon turned out to be an airgun.

A teen was given a stern talking-to from Montreal police officers after being stopped with an airgun on the REM on Saturday night. The SPVM received several 911 calls at around 7:30 p.m. after panicked passengers spotted a firearm on the public transit light rail line. “Many officers tried to locate the REM that he was still on,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

“We were able to locate the man and the REM he was on.” Officers intercepted the 19-year-old man at the Ville-de-Mont-Royal Station. “Two people were met,” said Brabant.

“There was no criminal act that was committed, but officers still met with the man and tried to understand what he was doing with that airsoft arm.” There were no injuries. REM service slowed down as a result of the police operation.

The man was released and told not to carry replica firearms in public. “Just to remind that in public, it’s very dangerous to have a firearm like that, or an imitation of a firearm,” said Brabant.
