The Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society invites the public to experience history brought to life with “Abigail Adams: A Living History Portrayal” presented by award-winning actress and scholar Leslie Goddard, Ph.D.

The Sterling - Rock Falls Historical Society invites the public to experience history brought to life with “Abigail Adams: A Living History Portrayal” presented by award-winning actress and scholar Leslie Goddard, Ph.D. The program will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Lincoln Learning Center, 611 E. Third St., Sterling. Step back into the days of the American Revolution as Abigail Adams shares her experiences as a devoted patriot, influential political voice, wife, mother and trusted adviser to her husband, President John Adams.

More than simply the wife of a Founding Father, Abigail was an intelligent, outspoken, and politically engaged woman who managed the family farm while closely following the events that shaped the new nation. Through her extensive correspondence, she offered insight and advice on the political issues of her time and famously urged her husband to “remember the ladies” as the new country took shape. In this acclaimed living history portrayal, Goddard recounts Abigail’s life, shares her views of the Founding Fathers and the politics of the Revolutionary era, and explores the remarkable partnership and love story of Abigail and John Adams.

Goddard has been presenting historical programs for more than 20 years. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, specializing in American studies and U.S. history, as well as a master’s degree in theater. A former museum director, she is the
