The Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island) First Nation has opened for wildfire evacuees as firefighters battle the Brunswick and Ainslie Creek wildfires.

Evacuees can report to the Seabird Island Gym at 2895 Chowat Road. Seabird Island officials are working closely with agencies contributing to the wildfire efforts and have received a request for support. “We are ready to welcome evacuees and provide the assistance that they need,” a statement reads.

“We remain in regular communication with all organizations and are prepared to provide supports and assisance when requested.” Seabird Island officials ask residents to stay informed via updates from the B.C. Wildfire Service, Fraser Valley Regional District and DriveBC. “As the situation evolves, we will continue to work collaboratively with our partners to support the affected communities and First Nations to ensure the safety and well-being of residents,” Seabird Island officials said.
