Recommended Videos A Statistics Canada Labour Force report released on July 10 says the industry has been the biggest net creator of youth jobs of any sector in Canada since the start of the year. “The numbers are clear — our sector has created more new youth jobs than all other industries combined,” said Kelly Higginson, President and CEO of Restaurants Canada. “As youth unemployment continues to be a major national concern, the restaurant industry continues to play an important role in ensuring young people have the opportunities they need to launch their careers.” The report says the restaurant industry employed an average of 52,770 more young people during the first half of 2026 than during the same period last year.
