Properties on alert as 1,250-hectare wildfire at Big Bar Creek continues to burn Alert issued for wildfire The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert as a 1,250-hectare wildfire located 60 kilometres north of Lillooet continues to burn in challenging conditions. The French Bar Creek wildfire is located west of the Fraser River, and has been burning through grassland, timber and plateau areas. “The terrain, availability of water and access to the fire are posing challenges for responders,” the BC Wildfire Service said.

The fire was discovered on Saturday and is estimated to be about 1,246 hectares in size. On Monday, July 13, the TNRD issued an evacuation alert for a large stretch of land, including two addressed properties, due to the wildfire. Anyone in the area is asked to prepare to leave if it is deemed necessary.

BCWS said a few dozen firefighters and 10 helicopters are fighting the wildfire, which is burning at rank 1 and 2, meaning a smouldering ground fire with some open flame. “More smoke is likely to be observed in the following days,” BCWS said, citing expected warm, dry and windy conditions.
