The day was a scorcher so crowds came early to learn about marine organizations

Port Alberni’s Port Day drew the curious to the waterfront Published 10:55 pm Saturday, July 11, 2026 Saturday, June 13 was a real cooker and many took advantage of getting to the Port Day celebration early to try and beat the heat. Activities were centred around the boardwalk and paved area by the WCMRC dock and some vessels were open to the public to tour. You could hear the train whistle as the track was opened as part of the celebration.

The China Creek Campground crew were on hand to feed the masses with hotdogs and also drinks to keep hydrated. There were numerous local groups on hand like the Salmon Enhancement, Canadian Coast Guard, Rotary Club, and many more. There were a lot of freebies given out by many of the groups.

This year’s Salmon Festival Society had the new T-shirt designs as made by local residents, the youth 10 year old Tet Ley who called her design the heart of Salmon Festival and the adult design was by Yunny Kim.
