Police seek tips after hit-and-run collision injured teen boy in southwest Edmonton

Police are seeking tips from the public to help identify a driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision on Monday afternoon. At roughly 12:30 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was riding his bicycle westbound on Desrochers Boulevard, SW, and was crossing a marked crosswalk on the north side of the intersection on Desrochers Drive SW when he was struck by a vehicle at a high rate of speed, said police in a Thursday news release. Police said the vehicle, travelling southbound on Desrochers Drive SW at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the cyclist, and fled the scene.

Police said the vehicle continued southbound and then turned west onto 41 Avenue SW. The teen was transported to hospital by emergency crews with non-life-threatening injuries. Police describe the vehicle as a light silver four-door sedan, possibly an older Volkswagen with potential front-end damage.

“The complete disregard shown by the driver of this vehicle after striking this child is appalling,” said EPS Staff Sgt. David Crisp. “I’m hoping that someone can contact police with information about this incident so we can hold the driver of this vehicle accountable.”
