Lanier has now made 15 3-pointers between his last two games.

Detroit Pistons guard Chaz Lanier caught fire from deep in Monday’s Summer League game against the New York Knicks. The second-year player out of Tennessee made eight 3-pointers in the 86-75 loss to the Knicks. Lanier led all players with 24 points, all from deep.

Detroit selected the guard with the 37th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. As a rookie last season, he played in 34 games in a depth role. He is still searching for his first career start, but averaged 2.4 points in 7.7 minutes per game.

Lanier has shown recent consistent accuracy from beyond the arc so far in the Pistons’ Summer League games. In the first game Detroit played against the Philadelphia 76ers, he made 1 of 6 3s, but bounced back against the Cleveland Cavaliers, connecting on 7 of 12. So far this summer, the guard is 17-for-30 from 3-point range, for a 56.7% shooting percentage.

The guard will have his work cut out for him fighting for minutes next season. The Pistons acquired Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie in the 2026 NBA Draft. Detroit also acquired Gary Harris from the Milwaukee Bucks in a trade for Caris LeVert.

If Lanier can keep up this level of production, though, it could lead to a bigger role.
