Peter Henry Christopher May 1, 1941 – May 19, 2026 With his family by his side, Peter died quietly on May 19, 2026 at Nanaimo General Hospital. Peter grew up in Prescott Ontario, the first child of Patricia and Leo Christopher, followed by Marina, Paul and Patrick. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design he worked as a graphic designer.

At the age of 28 he flew to Lisbon, bought a used scooter and travelled across North Africa, Europe, Asia before flying from Portuguese Timor to Australia where his brother was living. After another two years in Australia as an art director in an advertising agency, he flew to Spain where he spent two years taking photographs for the photographic book Images of Spain . Based on the success of this book he became the principle photographer of the book Between Friends/Entre Amis , Canada’s gift to the United States on the occasion of their bicentennial.

More successful photographic books followed including Tzar: The lost World of Nicholas and Alexandra , Spirit of Sail , and crossing the Atlantic ocean in a replica of the Nina for Columbus: God, Gold and Glory . In recent years he published two novels One Man’s Rubbish , and The Spanish Knight’s Secret . Peter and Suzanne built two houses in Ontario before making the best decision of their lives by moving to Gabriola, where their son Lucas built them a beautiful home.

They also renovated an old three-story stone farmhouse on the island of Gozo in the Mediterranean which they would visit for 32 years. Always looking for another project to work on he recently converted an old sailing boat into a fine motor boat. Peter was very proud of this year’s Volunteer of the Year award from GaLTT for his work protecting young Garry oaks from deer browsing at Drumbeg Park.

Peter leaves behind wife Suzanne, sons Lucas, Adam (Shiho) and grandson Shido in Japan. His brother Paul (Stephanie) in Australia, aunt Sonya (Tom) in London U.K., and numerous nieces and nephews.
