A legendary class of 50 inductees will be honoured as part of the inaugural group going into the Alberta Basketball Hall of Fame. Based in Edmonton, the Hall announced its first four inductees on Monday. 2007 Alberta U17 Men’s Team: With a lineup that included future All-Canadian Jordan Baker, Alberta’s U17 men’s team captured gold at the 2007 Canada Basketball Championships.

Alberta defeated Quebec in the championship final after knocking off the seven-time defending gold medalists from Ontario in the semi-final round. 2009 Alberta Canada Games Women’s Team: The 2009 Alberta women’s basketball team became the province’s first gold medalists in hoops at the Canada Games. Coached by Scott Edwards, Alberta’s roster featured three players that went on to receive all-conference honours in the NCAA:

Adut Bulgak, Katherine Plouffe, and Michelle Plouffe. 2022 Alberta Canada Games Women’s Team: Robyn Fleckenstein coached Alberta to gold in women’s basketball at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, the second time an Alberta team topped the podium in Canada Games hoops. Alberta won every game by at least nine points, including rallying from fourth-quarter deficit to beat Saskatchewan in the final.

Edmonton Grads: Over a 25-year run from 1915 to 1940, the Edmonton Grads dominated competition around the world, winning countless championships while making advancements for women in sport. With a mark of 502-20, the Grads hold the record for highest all-time winning percentage in North American team sports. The Hall of Fame plans to announce the other 46 throughout the summer, on this schedule: July 13 – Teams July 20 – Players (male) July 27 – Coaches August 4 – Players (female) August 10 – Officials August 17 – Builders Tickets are on sale now for the gala, which is slated for Aug. 29 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

The Hall of Fame itself is at the Percy Page Centre.
