The Quebec government says designation recognizes the hospital’s expertise within the health-care network and will enable it to have access to additional funding for research, innovation and education.

The facility will be renamed the Jewish General Hospital University Health Centre. Health Minister Sonia Bélanger says in a press release that the hospital’s new status honours nearly a century of commitment, innovation and excellence in patient care. She added that the institution will train the next generation of professionals and develop practices that will benefit the entirety of Quebec’s health and social social services network.

The Jewish General becomes the eighth university hospital centre or university institute in Quebec that provides specialized or subspecialized services to the public, beyond its respective health region. — The Canadian Press’s health coverage is supported by a partnership with the Canadian Medical Association.
