Moira Elizabeth Wainwright (nee Hufty) Published July 17, 2026 September 22, 1951 – June 26, 2026 In Loving Memory ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Moira Elizabeth Wainwright at home, surrounded by family, on June 26, 2026. Moira was born and raised in Nelson, BC, the youngest of five children, moving to Victoria, BC after high school where she met her future husband John.

Together they raised three children and built a beautiful life in Cordova Bay, returning often to Nelson with her family spending long evenings telling stories on the back porch of her mother’s home, the sound of laughter ever present. Moira worked for several different Provincial and Local Government institutions throughout the years and she possessed strong egalitarian ideals, always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need. It was in raising her children and spending time with her family that she most treasured and shone the brightest; Moira will forever be remembered as a kind, loving, generous, playful and nurturing person to all that knew her.

After retirement, Moira and her husband moved to the Cowichan Valley, exchanging seafront for lakefront and allowing her to be closer to her grandchildren. Moira possessed a sharp wit and verve right through her terminal diagnosis, refusing to stop living life in the way that was most important to her. Moira was predeceased by her father Charles Hufty, mother Mary Hufty, sister Mitzi Hufty and brother-in-law Larry Black.

She is survived by her husband John Wainwright, children Megan Wainwright (Maciek Dobrowolski), Justin Wainwright (Colin Nicol), and Jessica Wainwright (Lindsay Mitchell), grandchildren Nixon, Thea, Matilda and Maggie, and siblings Gay Black, Holly Colebank (Mike Colebank) and Mike Hufty. Our hearts are no longer whole but we go on with countless memories and the knowledge that she will always be with us in spirit.
