Durham police say a 68-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in a Pickering parking lot Saturday.

Durham police say a 68-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in a Pickering parking lot Saturday. In a news release Sunday, the Durham Regional Police Service said it was called to the parking lot of 1105 Kingston Road shortly after 10 p.m. Durham police say a black Ford SUV was driving through the parking lot when it struck the pedestrian.

The man was trapped under the car for some time. Officers lifted the vehicle and performed life-saving measures on the man, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to Durham police. They said the driver of the Ford SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours and an investigation into the collision is underway, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham police.
