Project involves construction of in-stream erosion protection works

Little Qualicum River Erosion Protection work begins July 15 Published 5:35 am Tuesday, July 14, 2026 The Town of Qualicum Beach is starting work on the Little Qualicum River Protection Project on July 15.

The project will involve the construction of in-stream erosion protection works to reduce river flow velocities and stabilize the riverbank adjacent to the town’s river well field, which supplies approximately 90 per cent of the community’s potable water, according to a news release by the town. Site and trails will be closed to the public during construction. The project will also include habitat enhancement features to support fish and environmental health.

It was developed with support from hydro-technical engineers, environmental professionals, and regulatory agencies, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and includes ongoing engagement with Qualicum First Nation. Knappett Industries is the prime contractor and construction is estimated to happen between July 15 and Sept. 30, according to the town. No traffic delays are expected, according to the town.
