Kids' Carnival at Huble Homestead will keep the children entertained

At Huble Homestead you can play carnival games, pet some animals, take in a magic show and ride the mini rail

"There's nothing to do!" It's a familiar refrain once summer holidays begin, but Huble Homestead hopes to keep children entertained with its annual Kids' Carnival. The event takes place Sunday, July 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A half-hour drive north of Prince George leads to a full day of activities, including a treasure hunt, old-fashioned carnival games, a petting zoo, magic shows and miniature train rides.

"It's a ton of fun for everyone," said Krystal Leason, executive director of the Huble Homestead/Giscome Portage Heritage Society. "Even for the adults. I have a great time, and I'm working.

There's so much happening." William the Conjurer of The Art of Magic will perform five free magic shows throughout the day with park admission. "It wouldn't be a carnival without carnival games," Leason said.

"You can buy tickets at the General Store for 50 cents a play, and everyone wins a prize. We'll also be making ice cream — which means eating ice cream — and one of the most popular activities is when the parachute comes out so everyone can join in. The PG Mobile Petting Zoo will also be here with bunnies, little goats and other adorable animals."

Other participating organizations include Two Rivers Gallery, which will offer children's activities, and the Northern Bear Awareness Society. Visitors can also ride the Cottonwood Mini Rail from the Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum for a small fee. "We've also got our own rabbits and chickens that people can visit, a treasure hunt and treats available at the General Store," Leason said.

"And we'd like to thank Enbridge for supporting this event." Huble Homestead is about a 30-minute drive north of Prince George. Visitors travel north on Highway 97 before turning onto Mitchell Road and continuing another six kilometres along a well-maintained gravel road.

The site is dog-friendly. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic or purchase lunch from the barbecue. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10 per family.
