Journal archives: In 1951, historic Maiden Creek ranch house destroyed Published 10:00 am Saturday, July 11, 2026 125 YEARS AGO: JULY 13, 1901 Fast Trip: With three changes of horses, Tommy Hamilton lately made the trip from 150 Mile House to Veith and Borland’s ranch at Keithley Creek [between Likely and Barkerville] in 11 hours. This is good time when the condition of the road is considered. First Trip: L. McKay left Wednesday afternoon for his first trip to the coast. He has lived for 13 years at Ashcroft and has never been further down the line than Spatsum. Mr. McKay is certainly well entitled to a vacation and will enjoy a few days in Vancouver. Bad Roads: There is great and just complaint from those who have to use Cariboo trails because over half the summer is gone and no work has been done on them. What evil spirit governs the management of roads is beyond the comprehension...
