Guelph road rage incidents lead to impaired charges, police say

A Guelph man faces impaired driving charges after a pair of road rage incidents against a woman, police said. The first incident occurred Monday, at about 10 p.m., when a woman said another motorist had cut her off, before approaching her car while swearing, Guelph police said. The man then broke the woman’s side mirror.

The woman called police and followed the man to a plaza on Kortright Road West, where she said he reversed at a high rate of speed into her car. Officers found the man minutes later at his home, noting he had alcohol on his breath and difficulty following simple commands. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system, police said.

The man, 32, was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and mischief under $5,000. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court Aug. 25.
