Guelph police have issued a reminder for the community to report any illegal activity, including open drug use in public spaces. The service says it continues to hear concerns about the issue from residents and businesses, and timely reporting is key to addressing the problem. “We want residents to know those concerns matter and that illegal drug use in our shared public spaces will not be tolerated,” said Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey in a release.

“Our focus is always on protecting the safety of our citizens and addressing illegal activities.” Cobey said they also want to connect vulnerable individuals with available supports and their officers work with specialized clinicians to respond to calls involving mental health, addictions and other complex needs. Businesses and property owners who have concerns about illicit drug use can contact Guelph police for advice on crime prevention and improving safety.

Anyone who witnesses criminal activity like open drug use is asked to call Guelph police at 519-824-1212, although emergencies should still be reported immediately to 911.
