‘Free Fry Day’ returns to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House

A food manufacturer is hosting its seventh annual Free Fry Day in multiple communities across southern Manitoba on Thursday to raise funds for sick children. This year’s events — spearheaded by McCain Foods in support of Ronald McDonald House Manitoba — will take place in Brandon, Carberry, Glenboro, Portage la Prairie and Carman, the non-profit announced Tuesday.

Community members are encouraged to pick up free McCain Foods products and make a donation to help families in need at the participating drive-through locations: • Brandon — Keystone Centre (1175 18th St. Unit 1) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Carberry — CP Park on Fourth Avenue from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. • Glenboro — Glenboro Fire Hall (408 South Railway Ave.) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. •

Portage la Prairie — Portage Collegiate Institute parking lot (65 Third St. SW) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Carman — 87 Main St. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funds will support Ronald McDonald House Manitoba’s Winnipeg locations on Juno Street and in the family room at the HSC Children’s Hospital to ensure families have a comfortable place to stay during their child’s medical treatment. Last year, the event raised more than $75,000 for its programming.

The event is a “powerful example” of how community members can come together to support people the non-profit serves from areas including Winnipeg, rural Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, said Wendy Galagan, the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Manitoba. “The generosity, spirit and kindness we see each year is truly inspiring,” Galagan said in Tuesday’s news release. “We are deeply grateful to McCain Foods, sponsors, donors and volunteers for making this day possible.”

Brent Maryniuk, the McCain Foods plant manager in Portage la Prairie, said the manufacturer is committed to supporting communities it operates in and partnering with local organizations to make a meaningful difference. “Free Fry Day is a chance to bring people together in support of a cause that touches so many lives,” Maryniuk said in the release. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support RMH Manitoba and the important role they play in helping families find comfort, connection and care during challenging times.”
