We’re now getting a sneak peek of the next batch of emoji coming to your devices. Unicode is offering a preview of Emoji 18.0, which shows off the final look of the next designs. If you’re tired of using the same emoji again and again, the Unicode Emoji Standard and Research Working Group have been working on refreshing the catalog to level up your emoji game while texting.

Emoji 18.0 preview shows off nine new emoji designs coming to your keyboard While these new emoji won’t come to your keyboard app until next spring, we’re at least getting a look at what’s about to arrive. There are a total of nine new designs that will come with Emoji 18.0. These include a net with a handle, a meteor, left- and right-pointing thumbs, a monarch butterfly, a lighthouse, a pickle, and an eraser.

There’s even a cracked smiling face. As the company puts it, it’s for those moments when “I’m fine” actually means “I’m very much not fine.” In addition to introducing new designs, Emoji 18.0 also makes notable changes to existing emojis without replacing them.

Some notable changes For instance, the flaming rock (in the picture attached) was often misused to represent a comet. However, this emoji has now been classified as a meteor. Meanwhile, the old celestial blue ice streak is once again the standard for a comet.

Unicode Emoji Subcommittee Chair Jennifer Daniel notes, “ Wishing on a star and witnessing an extinction-level event are two entirely different energies. ” The cucumber emoji is still there, but there’s now a new pickle emoji as well. Besides these, the Emoji 18.0 also fixes the fragmentation of the butterfly emoji.

For context, some users, depending on the phone, got the blue morpho butterfly, while others had the monarch butterfly. That’s going away, finally. As said, these new emoji will not come to your phone/keyboard until next spring.
