The fire broke out at around 11 a.m. in Cornerstone
Calgary fire crews responded to a garage fire in the northeast community of Cornerstone on Monday morning. At 11:10 a.m., fire crews were called to the 100 block of Cornerstone Manor for reports of a structure fire, said public information officer Alex Kwan. When they arrived smoke was seen coming from the rear attached garage of a two-story home.
“Crews went into the alley and found higher smoke conditions stretched the whole line into the backyard,” Kwan said. “They made entries through one of the entry doors and located a fire inside a garage.” Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and keep the fire damage contained to the garage.
No occupants were inside of the home and search confirmed no one else was inside at the time, Kwan said. Two cats were rescued and were returned to the homeowners. A fire investigator is working towards determining the origin and cause of the fire.
