The seizure happened on July 8 when staff discovered methamphetamine, chargers and vaping devices and accessories, according to a news release from CSC’s Prairie Region. The agency says the packages were caught, “as a result of the vigilance of staff members.” CSC says police were notified, while the prison is still investigating.

The release did not say whether anyone was charged. It also did not say how the packages got into the prison. Drumheller Institution is a federal correctional centre for men in Drumheller.

It opened in 1967 and holds both medium and minimum security inmates. It is at least the fourth seizure CSC has reported at the prison this year. In April, staff seized methamphetamine worth $594,000.

Two more seizures in the spring were valued at $339,875 and $486,300. The July seizure is the largest reported this year. The CSC says it uses tools such as ion scanners and drug detector dogs to keep drugs out of it’s institutions.
