Operations at the Cigar Lake uranium mine have resumed after a nearly two-week halt in production.

Mining giant Cameco announced the decision on Tuesday, saying mining operations are back underway and it has resumed shipping ore to Orano Canada's McClean Lake mill, where the material is processed.

Both facilities are located in northern Saskatchewan, more than 650 kilometres north of Saskatoon. Operations were temporarily suspended at the mine, which produces high-grade uranium, at the beginning of the month. It came as the result of "operational challenges" at the mill.

In its own news release, Orano cited an issue with an expansion joint at the mill's sulfuric acid plant, forcing it to be shut down. There were no injuries as a result of the issue, and Orano said operations at the mill resumed within 12 days of the shutdown. Both companies say their production outlook has not been impacted by the halt in production.
