Canadiens hire Daniel Jacob as head coach of AHL Laval

There's a new person in charge of the AHL's Laval Rocket. Daniel Jacob has been promoted from assistant to head coach, the Montreal Canadiens — the Rocket's NHL affiliate — announced Monday.

Jacob spent the past two seasons with the club, previously serving under head coach Pascal Vincent, who left to become an assistant with the Seattle Kraken.

"In his time with the Laval Rocket, Daniel has earned the respect of all his colleagues and players with his relentless enthusiasm, work ethic and undeniable passion for the game of hockey and for improving hockey players. He is an excellent communicator with a proven track record of player development," Rocket general manager John Sedgwick said in a statement. Jacob, 45, was in charge of defencemen and the penalty kill as an assistant.

He has also spent one season each with the AHL's San Diego Gulls and Syracuse Crunch as well as four seasons each with the QMJHL's Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and McGill University. The Rocket job marks the first as head coach for the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., native, who also played in Canadian university, the QMJHL, AHL and professionally in Austria.
