ATHABASCA COUNTY JULY 14 2026 Weed Management Programs Under the Alberta Weed Control Act, property owners are responsible for controlling any noxious or prohibited weed species on their land. Athabasca County offers several programs to assist landowners with weed management strategies.

Fenceline Spray Program The Fence line Program is comprised of two different project types: County Road Fencelines: Athabasca County can spray weeds along County roads at no cost to the adjacent landowner. This typically involves a UTV with boom sprayers driving along the inside of the fence and spraying into the fence line as well as spraying into the ditch.

Internal Fencelines:Weed spraying along internal fence lines is available at a rate of $75 per half mile. Special Project Program This program is intended for weed control in non-fence line areas such as pastures, hayfields, driveway edges, and headlands not adjacent to County roads. Spraying services are available at a rate of $100peracre.

Weed Control Incentive Program Ratepayers who control noxious weeds on their own property may be eligible for reimbursement of up to$15peracre through the Weed Control Incentive Program. Participants in the program are required to apply prior to work being done, and have their land inspected before and after the chemical application. Proof of chemical purchase must be submitted to qualify for reimbursement.

Athabasca County residents can now use the free Fire Smart Begins at Home app to complete a self-guided assessment or request a free professional Fire Smart assessment for a more detailed evaluation of their property.

During an on- site assessment, a trained FireSmart assessor will walk through your property with you, identifying factors that may affect your home’s wildfire risk, such as vegetation, firewood storage, debris, access points,and other property-specific features. Once complete, you’ll receive a personalized written report with clear, prioritized recommendations to help reduce wildfire risk and improve your property’s resilience. 2026 Property Tax Payment Deadline The 2026 Combined Assessment and Property Tax Notices were mailed out on May28, 2026, to all property owners. If you did not receive yours, please contact our Administration Office at780-675-2273.

Network has a fun summer activity for families to complete during July and August. Pick up your “Passport” at FCSS in Athabasca, the Native Friendship Centre in Lac La Biche, or print it off from Facebook. Complete the Passport with your family and enter for a chance to win some great prizes.

Youth Wellness Day - Friday, July 24, from12-3p.m., at the Riverfront. This event is for the teens. Come have some snacks, do some fun activities,and learn about some of the agencies you can access in the community to support your personal wellness.

Babysitter and Home Alone Programs - Babysitter Training Course is held on Tuesday, July21, from 9:30 a.m.-4:30p.m., at the Athabasca Family Centre. This course is for youth ages 12+ and costs $20. Home Alone Safety Course is held on Tuesday, July28, from 9:30 a.m.-12p.m.
