The poor air quality isn’t letting up in Waterloo Region, Guelph and most of southern Ontario. Environment Canada updated an orange level severe air quality alert Friday morning warning of terrible air quality and heavy smoke conditions throughout the weekend. Friday’s Air Quality Index reading was still at a 10+, the highest level possible.

It marked the third day of dangerous air quality levels. Officials expect Saturday will stay at the “very high risk” level. Data provided by Environment Canada Across southern Ontario, some areas may see a bit of relief on Friday.

But it will be short-lived. In Toronto, Environment Canada says the hazy, smoky conditions could temporarily improve before the weekend. “Limit time outdoors.

Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events. You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough,” said the alert from Environment Canada. “If you must spend time outdoors, limit the time as much as possible.
