Source Norfolk County firefighters battled a massive fire that killed 20,000 hogs at a farm just west of Simcoe. “Smoke was noticed by (farm) staff at about 6:30 this morning,” said Norfolk County Deputy Fire Chief James Robertson. “This is a very large pig operation – the owners tell me it’s one of the biggest in the province. The building is somewhere around four acres in size.” The Deputy Chief said the entire structure is a total loss, and estimated that at least 20,000 pigs have perished in the blaze. There were no injuries reported to firefighters or farm staff thus far. “Operations are still ongoing, and this will be a long one for us.
